I love my conversations with Lucas...
"Mom when I get to be 6 can I stay up a little later than what I do now when I'm 4?"
Me, "Maybe."
L, "Cause I like to see the stars."
M, "You do? Ok"
L, "That's going to take forever."
M, "What's going to take forever?"
L, "To be six. And when I get to be a daddy I can really stay up later!"
Lucas pays way too much attention to the lyrics on songs that are on the radio. Questions he has asked during songs:
"The rumor has what?"
"Why doesn't she know she's beautiful?"
"What's a single lady?"
And this conversation when "Friends" by Whodini came on the radio:
L: "Everybody has friends."
M: "They do, huh?"
L: "Daddy has a friend."
M: "And who is that?"
L: "Me!"
L: "And you have friends."
M: "And who are they?"
L: "I don't know them."
L: "But I'm your friend. And Dad is your friend. And Kayla. And our whole family is a friend."
His preschool eval indicated he counted to 59. I asked why he stopped at 59. He said 'my mouth just got tired of saying all the numbers. They couldn't say anymore.'
"I like for it to be a little bit of winter in summer."
Me, "You want winter to be in summer?"
"Yeah. Cause I want it to be a little bit cold when it's too hot."
"In other words, you like Fall."
Explaining to Lucas what the 2 name tags I picked off a tree are for - that they are for a couple of people in a nursing home and I am going to be buying them some gifts they wanted for Christmas. He asked if he could help me go shopping for them. I told him of course. He said, "I'm going to get the best gift EVER at CVS." (Why CVS? I have no idea except maybe we were passing one.) Me, "oh yeah? What would that be?" "A stuffed animal!" "Oh that's so nice of you." "Or do you think they would like a toy?" Then I had to explain to him they were much older; not kids. "Then I think they would like a stuffed animal better."
"Ewww macaroni and cheese! Oh, wait, that's not macaroni and cheese."
"Why ewww? You like macaroni and cheese."
"No I don't."
"Why don't you like it? You used to."
"People like different food."
"Can I draw a picture for God?"
"Sure if you want to."
"How will we get it to God?"
"Umm...hmm...well...umm...He'll just be able to see what you drew."
"Can Santa bring it to Him?"
"How high is God? As high as the trees?"
"He's higher than that; up in the sky."
"So He's in the clouds?"
"Yeah up in the clouds."
"Then how come we don't see Him when we're on a plane?"
"How come boys can't have babies?"
"Oh..umm...hmm... well their bodies aren't made to hold babies."
"Cause boys' bodies are small?"
"Well they just have different organs inside; boys don't have wombs."
"A room?"
"No, a womb."
"What's a womb?"
"It's where the baby grows."
"So it's like a room?"
