My apologies if you already saw this elsewhere, but I am stoked to announce that pre-orders are now open for my book of stories, Look! Look! Feathers, which is coming out in December from Word Riot Press. The pre-order price is a few dollars cheaper than the list price will be, so it's a bargain. The stories will appeal to people who like 57% or more of the stuff on this list: magic cysts, peaches, gameshows, electrolytes, necklaces made of bluebird bones, broken armchairs, two-father families, mosquito fog, murals, drivethrough redwoods, and cardboard banditos. So this means I have a book of poems out in September and a book of stories out in December, which is crazy, and which makes me feel very lucky and grateful to everyone kind in my life. I really would like to blog in a way that isn't just links to other things, but my life is not that interesting besides what happens where the links go. For instance, all I've done of note today is eat grapefruit. Last night I dreamed I was in the castle level of a video game. Someone is wearing boots inappropriate for the weather.

The other day I hallucinated that my apartment had central air. I called my landlord and he straightened me out. I've been cataloging answers to the questions "WHAT IS THE STRONGEST THING YOU HAVE EVER FELT? WHAT IS THE STRANGEST THING YOU HAVE EVER FELT?" by making answers up and making people up to have these answers. If you would like to participate, comment with your answers and I will alter them deviously and appreciatively.

The title of this post comes from a poem by M.A. Vizsolyi in the new Sixth Finch. I also have two poems in the new Sixth Finch. Sixth Finch is one of my favorite online poetry magazines for a few reasons. The first are cosmetic: there is a menu of pieces, but there is also a secret order you can enter by clicking the arrows above any individual piece. This means Sixth Finch aids in the feeling that there is a secret order underpinning everything in the universe, which is a comforting and ridiculous story we tell ourselves, similar to eating ice cream for breakfast. I also like how there are no bios in Sixth Finch, only poems and art. The fact that Sixth Finch has such terrific visual art "alongside" the poems is another reason I like it.

But these reasons, friends, as mentioned, up there, already, you saw it, don't pretend, are cosmetic. The big reason I like Sixth Finch is that I like almost all the poems in every issue. That is rare! Rob MacDonald is doing something right, and by "right" I mean what people always mean when they mean right, which is "I like it." In this issue are really good poems and art from Adam Davis, Andrew Myers, Anthony Zinonos, Ben Mirov, Beth Heppenstall, Chloe Early, Daniel McFarlane, Daniela Olszewska, Harris Johnson, Hollis Brown Thornton, Jacob Whibley, Jennifer Moxley, Jessica Fjeld, Jordan Davis, Leslie Murray, Mark Todd, Martin Rock, Mary Carmack, Mary Mattingly, Masin Persina, Meredith Dittmar, Michael Homolka, M.A. Vizsolyi and Trey Moody.

The two poems I have in this issue are some weird poem about what you should do when you've done things and a very long poem about Massachusetts slash New England, which was fun to write. If you would like me to write probably too long of a poem about your state, please comment with one or three interesting things about your state, and I will do my best.

In the group, two girls become very close friends, Charlene (Maggie Q), a sensitive, pretty, family-oriented girl and Katt (Anya) an equally pretty street urchin. After 6 years of training, the girls are subjected to the final test to determine who among them would be the next female assassin. The test requires that the girls fight each other to the death until only one survives, however, Madame M sees three girls worthy to become assassins, Charlene, Katt and Jing (Jewel Lee).

I Give My First Love to You

Boku no Hatsukoi, Kimi ni Sasugu, or I Give My First Love to You, is a manga turned film about two people named Takuma (Okada Masaki) and Mayu (Inoue Mao). They first meet at a hospital, where Takuma was staying at because of a heart condition. Mayu is the daughter of the cardiologist that treats him. During this time, they become closer and closer, and when they were 8, Takuma made a promise, that once they were 20, they would get married.

So, they became childhood sweethearts. But, during their high school years, Takuma starts distancing himself from Mayu, much to her dismay. He doesn’t want her to find out his secret, which was the fact that he didn’t know how long his heart would last after the age of 20.

But, what he doesn’t know is that she knows his secret as well.

Synopsis:

After the incident, Barney stays in a Buddhist temple, where he’s given shelter. On a visit to Dokya’s mother’s somtum stall, Barney tries a taste of somtum, a traditional thai salad, out of curiosity. He feels like his mouth is burning and storms out to get some water. What he doesn’t know is that when he turns red from the heat of spice, he’s grained with a superpower.

Synopsis: A mysterious criminal K-20 (that's short for 'Kaijin Niju-Menso' - the Phantom Thief with 20 faces) with the power to change his appearance steals art and antiques from the rich with incredible ways like magician. Planing to commit a new theft K-20 tricks the police into thinking a circus acrobat named Heikichi Endo (Takeshi Kaneshiro) is the real criminal. Heikichi gets mistaken for K-20 and arrested. Realizing he's been set up, Heikichi manages to escape, but there's only one way to attest the innocence - capture the real K-20. I wrote a poem after looking at this list of the "top" seven worst man made disasters, and then I sent that poem to Amy King when she put out a call for work to post on the Poets For Living Waters initiative. You can read the poem here. This poem is most likely to appeal if you are secretly impressed by epic man made disasters and counteractively ashamed of your feeling impressed. Please do check out the Poets For Living Waters project: "The first law of ecology states that everything is connected to everything else."

In other Gulf Epic Phail news, Carolyn Zaikowski organized a public mourning walk in Northampton, MA yesterday. We put together this video of the event, which is annotated by a statement Carolyn wrote. The statement is very lyrical and thoughtful: unmired by temporary political myopia or static visionary illusions, and instead concerned with acknowledging timeless facts of people living among other people, on a world, and trying to know—in public and private ways—how to allow ourselves to feel and reckon with tragedies we inflict on that world.
