Good morning, lovers. Look at me, already posting before 9am and it's not a link up. Proud? No? Well I am! It's probably because I was over here reading some of the jokes you ladies posted for me yesterday. Some of you are hilarious and I love it.
So, I posted a picture of these football rice crispy treats last week before we left town for the long weekend. A couple of you sweet little gems made me feel all sorts of accomplished about them and asked for a tutorial. Ask and you shall receive, my dearsies.
But really, I think we all know I was going to photos while I was making them regardless of my not knowing how they were going to turn out. Any recipe and/or craft is means for some type of blog post, amiright?!
Football Rice Crispy Treats - Tutorial
I started out by making rice crispy treats with the recipe on the back of the box. You can click here for the recipe, as well.
I recommend doing this all on VERY low heat - Marshmallows burn really easily. It's a bit more time consuming, but worth it. I promise!
Once I was done making the rice crispies, I pressed them out flat in a buttered cookie sheet with sides. It helps to use wax paper to flatten them out, instead of your hands. It's a pretty sticky job. Put the cookie sheet in the fridge once they're all flattened to harden a bit.
Next I melted down my chocolate pieces on really low heat. This chocolate melted down really well and you don't want it to burn!
*I found this chocolate in the candy molds section of the store. It was absolutely delicious.. wayyy better than plain chocolate chips.*
Once the flattened treats were hardened in the fridge, I took them out and used my cookie cutter to make a bunch of little footballs.
*tip - spray some Pam on your cookie cutter*
Lay your completed, football shaped, treats out on a buttered/Pam-ed cookie sheet so they don't stick.
Placing the lollipop sticks in the treats got a little tricky until I realized putting a little melted chocolate on the tip of the sticks before putting them in would help them stick. Push those sticks up in there, don't be shy. Be gentle, though. The treats get flimsy when they start warming up.
I spread the chocolate on the tops of each treat with a mini spatula. I was pretty generous with the chocolate - who doesn't like chocolate?!
Place them in the fridge before you draw the laces on so the chocolate can harden.
*Also - I used white icing for the laces but I think next time I'll try piping them on with white chocolate. The icing was very droopy and hard to work with. I had many ugly duds.*
And that's it! This was a really easy project that turned out really yummy, too. My boo's dad thought I bought them from a bakery and his grandma insisted on the rice crispy treats recipe because it was "the best she's ever had". She was shocked to find out that it was just the recipe off the box.
Good luck and enjoy!
