Lucas and Kayla were playing a game on Wii Fit Plus ... it was the one where you basically just run in place. Lucas wanted Kayla to run with him so it was on the 2-player option.
They finished the 'race' and Lucas excitedly yelled, "I win first!"
Kayla, just as excited, yelled, "I win second!"
Then Joe told Kayla that she was right, she finished second. Kayla doesn't always use the terms first, second, third ... so I think he was confirming for her 'second.'
Kayla was just as happy about it as Lucas was so she pumped her fist in the air and very happily yelled, "YES!"
She didn't finish in second place, or in this case, also 'last', she didn't place second; she didn't come in second, she won second.
Isn't that a better way of looking at things? Winning first, second, third etc? You won that place so claim it! Own it!
It doesn't matter that this was a running-in-place, not really a competition, playing a Wii game with her brother kind of race.
The lesson learned is tt doesn't matter what place you finish. What matters is that you cross the finish line ... and you cross it with an emphatic YES!
