Sunsets

Penulis : Unknown on Thursday, 28 June 2012 | 11:44

Thursday, 28 June 2012

We had some absolutely beautiful sunsets at the resort. The sun usually set around 9:45 and the sky stayed pretty light for awhile after that. It was only dark for a few hours and then it it seemed to brighten up by 4am already.

I took so many photographs of the sun setting and can't pick out just one favorite!

Jellyfish

Penulis : Unknown on Tuesday, 26 June 2012 | 10:55

Tuesday, 26 June 2012

Day 3 in Denmark found us just exploring some towns near our resort (Rageleje Klit). The resort is on the coast of northern Denmark and faces the Kattegat. It has a beautiful view, nice drives to surrounding towns, and only about 45 min to Copenhagen (by car).

We went to Helsinge to walk around the many shops, grocery shop, and enjoy the day. We went to Gilleleje that evening for dinner and to walk along the shore.

Eating dinner at Far til 4 (Father to 4)

There were plenty of jellyfish washed up on the shore.

With my sister and a beautiful sunset.

About the jellyfish: that night Lucas woke up and sounded like he was whimpering about something. I tried talking to him to find out what was wrong but he wouldn't say anything. Finally I said, "What is bothering you?" and he replied, "The train is bothering me!"

Train? There were definitely no trains around. He must've been dreaming/still sleeping.

I got him settled down, or so I thought, and a few minutes later he started doing that whimpering sound again. Not really crying with tears, but upset about something.

This time he managed to tell me, "I don't like the jellyfish! I don't want to see jellyfish!" I told him he didn't have to look at the jellyfish and to just go to sleep. I think the whole time he wasn't fully awake, he never had his eyes opened.

I put my hand on his chest to let him know I was there and he rolled over on his side. Then he lifted my hand off his chest and cried out, "Get the jellyfish off my shirt!"

The next morning I asked him if he remembered dreaming about jellyfish. He thought about it for a few minutes and then said he did. I asked him what he was dreaming about the jellyfish and he said "They were trying to come in the house and get on my clothes."

Poor kid ... those jellyfish on the shore must've given him some nightmare!

Frederiksborg Castle

Penulis : Unknown on Sunday, 24 June 2012 | 11:30

Sunday, 24 June 2012

On our second day in Denmark we went to Hillerod to go to Frederiksborg Castle - National History Museum. The description listed a children's area in the wine cellar where kids can dress up in historical costumes - that sounded like something my kids would really enjoy. (Also, thanks to my husband for doing all of the driving in a foreign country and to my cousin for the use of her GPS - that helped us out a lot!)

The suit of armor Lucas wore was pretty heavy; he couldn't walk in it very well!

Dressed as Christian IV

There were some outfits just big enough for my sister and me to get in on the dress-up fun!

Posing seriously like the portraits from 'back then.'

This is one of my favorite pictures from that day. It looks so authentic.

The King and Queen

The church inside the castle.

The Great Room

Beautiful details on the ceiling.

Yummy dinner courtesy of my cousin.

International Travelers

Penulis : Unknown on Friday, 22 June 2012 | 12:59

Friday, 22 June 2012

We just completed our first international trip as a family of 4 and I have to say it was successful!

6 years ago Kayla and I flew to Denmark with my mom and sister. Joe was TDY for 6 wks at that time and, obviously, Lucas wasn't even born yet. So Kayla has been overseas with me before but we hadn't taken a trip like this with the 4 of us.

We went, again, to Denmark. I have cousins over there and ever since Kayla and I went over there Joe has been saying he wants to go too. My cousins flew to the states last year for my sister's wedding so this year was 'our turn' to go to Denmark and we finally made it happen.

Denmark is 6 hrs ahead of us and the flight (thankfully we flew direct on SAS) was 8 hrs. We left at 530pm on Fri night and arrived 730am Sat morning. The kids slept for maybe 1 or 2 hrs, but it was restless sleep at that.

Once we got to Denmark we got our rental car (oh, just because the van I reserved said it seats 7 doesn't mean that is 7 passengers WITH luggage. Thank goodness we only needed 6 seats so one of the seats could fold down and fit our luggage!) and then we drove to our family's house for breakfast. The kids, surprisingly, had plenty of energy to jump on the trampoline! At 230 we headed for our resort and Lucas crashed in the car shortly after that. We could not wake him up AT ALL and finally gave up and tucked him in to bed at 6pm. (Noon back in the states). The kid had been up for about 24 hrs. He slept until 10am the next morning! Kayla kept going and going until we all went to bed that night. I don't know how she was functioning!

We had a wonderful time in Denmark (even though you have to pay for your water at the restaurants and the food is so much more expensive!)
