Most Beautiful Eyes Contest

Penulis : Unknown on Friday, 6 July 2012 | 14:49

Friday, 6 July 2012

I can't believe it has been a year since I entered Kayla in the Most Beautiful Eyes contest and all the excitement that followed!

Prevent Blindness America is in the middle of their search for the "Most Beautiful Eyes" for 2012.

PBA's top priority has been keeping children's eyes healthy. Through this contest, along with their sponsors Marchon Eyewear, Eagle Eyes Optics, Real Kids Shades, and Walters Golf, they hope to remind parents of the important role that healthy vision has in a child's development and potential performance in school.

Kayla and Lucas have Real Kids Shades and these sunglasses are awesome! People seem to always comment on them to Lucas and tell him how nice his sunglasses are.

Through July 31st you can enter your child's (up to age 17) picture on PBA's Facebook page. Public voting will take place online through the month of August. Each state will have one winner (void where prohibited), which will advance to the second round of voting. The second round of voting will be done by 3 celebrity judges.

The national winner will enjoy a weekend in Chicago (we had a great time!) and attend Prevent Blindness America's Annual Awards Banquet and be presented with the grand prize of a $10,000 college scholarship.

Shutterfly Holiday Cards Giveaway

Penulis : Unknown on Saturday, 3 December 2011 | 16:54

Saturday, 3 December 2011

Contest is now closed. Congrats to Crittle, The Hailey Herald and Shutterfly Addict!

Last year I used a great Shutterfly blogger promotion to order our Christmas cards; and this year I'll be doing the same! Plus I have 3 codes to giveaway to 3 winners for 25 free 5x7 folded or flat stationary holiday cards!

Hopefully there are some procrastinators out there (like me, ahem!) that haven't made/ordered their holiday cards and can use this great promotion!

I really had no idea what photos I was going to use for our holiday card this year and hadn't even yet attempted to get any photo-card-worthy pictures. Thank goodness for our trip to Chicago though! We had a photo shoot while we were there. Well, the photo shoot was really for Kayla, but they were very generous and did family photo as well. So now I finally have the perfect pictures to use for our Christmas cards.

The hard part was picking the perfect card to fit those pictures in! I like the cards with more than one picture on them as it is so hard to just pick one picture to use!

Right now cards are up to 40% off and you can get free shipping on orders of $50 or more by using code SHIP50.

While looking around on the site (because they also offer more than just prints and cards) I got some great ideas to use for photo gifts. Especially helpful for the people that seem to have everything and you have no idea what to get them!

This is what I finally ended up getting. We didn't get a professional picture of Kayla and Lucas together in Chicago so I used the one that was taken at the NDSC Convention this summer.

View the entire collection of cards.

If you'd like to win a code for 25 free cards just leave a comment on this post (making sure I have a way to get in touch with you!) telling me which design is your favorite.

I received my own set of free holiday cards from Shutterfly in exchange for this blog post.

Well Hello, Beautiful Eyes!

Penulis : Unknown on Sunday, 20 November 2011 | 04:46

Sunday, 20 November 2011

So... most people already know via Facebook ... but I have to announce on my blog as well ...

Kayla is the grand prize winner of Prevent Blindness America's Most Beautiful Eyes Contest!

I still don't think it has quite sunk in yet! She is the recipient of a $25K college scholarship (maybe that is the part that hasn't sunk in yet!)

And she will now be the face of the Star Pupil program for the next year!

What an amazing time we had in Chicago meeting the wonderful employees from PBA and the sponsors of the contest.

I know this post doesn't do our trip justice - I will have to do another post later; but we just got home last night and we're already off for a dolphin site-seeing trip this morning!

Thank you for sharing in our excitement!

Kayla is a Finalist!

Penulis : Unknown on Thursday, 17 November 2011 | 09:35

Thursday, 17 November 2011

I just updated my blog, but in case you're visiting via a direct link to this post here is the update to the contest: Kayla is the grand prize winner! She is the face of the Star Pupil program AND won a $25K college scholarship! See the press release from my blogs home page.

So... remember last month when I announced that Kayla was the state winner for the Most Beautiful Eyes contest?

A panel from Prevent Blindness America narrowed the state winners down .to 5.

Those 5 were sent to the 3 celebrity judges (former TV broadcaster Larry King, Pittsburgh Pirates player Derek Lee, and NASA astronaut Walter Cunningham). The celebrity judges picked the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners.

A few weeks ago I got the call that Kayla was one of the top 3 finalists! Wow!

Kayla has become a little celebrity around town.

The Post and Courier did a follow-up article.

The Summerville Journal Scene wrote and article.

ABC News 4 came out for an interview.

Here is the video clip:

We were at Ye Olde Fashioned Ice Cream and Sandwich Cafe the other day and when we walked in the lady behind the counter said to me, "She looks like the girl in the paper with the pretty eyes." Me, "Yep! That's her!"

The winner will be announced Friday night at the annual awards dinner and banquet.

The winner will receive a $25K college scholarship (2nd and 3rd place receive scholarships too) and become the face of their Star Pupil program for a year. Excited much?!

Please keep your fingers crossed for Kayla!

Special Exposure Wednesday

Penulis : Unknown on Wednesday, 14 September 2011 | 08:57

Wednesday, 14 September 2011

I finally submitted a picture of Kayla for Prevent Blindness America's Most Beautiful Eyes contest. I posted about this contest last month.

Here is the picture I submitted of Kayla:

She could really use some votes! If you have just a couple of seconds (really that's all it takes!) I'd appreciate if you would click on this link and then click "vote." Really, it's that simple! You don't have to 'like' their FB page, you don't have to register, you don't have to sign up for anything, you don't have to fill out a form with your name or email, all you do is click the vote link. Voting runs through Sep 30th and you can vote once every 24 hrs. Thank you so much!

A little information about the contest and sponsor:

Prevent Blindness America is the nation's leading volunteer eye health and safety organization dedicated to fighting blindness and saving sight.

The program is designed to support the Star Pupils program, the signature vision and education platform for Prevent Blindness America. The goal is to help 5 million kids through preventative vision care.

The winner will become the face of the Star Pupils program and receive a $25K scholarship.
