When Songs Attack
It's fascinating to me that certain songs can instantly bring me back to a certain time and place in my life, based on when and where I heard said song.
For instance, I was in my kitchen cooking the other day when Ants Marching by Dave Matthews Band came on and I was instantly brought back to tailgating outside of Doak Campbell stadium. Which is actually kind of shocking considering usually those days started with kegs and eggs, which meant by the time we headed to the 12 o'clock tailgate, I was already headed towards the blackout fuzzies.
See below:
Dammit, I miss college.
Not so much those acrylic nails.
It's funny how times change. How I can go from relating a song to tailgating like a maniac, and frolicking around frat houses, to now chopping up some garlic in my kitchen.
Slightly depressing.
And then there's songs like Get Low by Lil Jon and I can't help but to think about the days when my friends and I thought drinking Hpnotiq was the absolute coolest thing in the world.
And when we used to dance on the pool table at my friend's parent's house.
No, seriously...
That may, or may not, be how we celebrated my 18th birthday.
I'll forever relate songs like that to those unforgettably forgettable nights, the summer after I graduated high school.
And then there's the 80's song... damn the 80's songs. Take Me Home Tonight by Eddie Money, a jukebox classic. Right next to Don't Stop Believing by Journey and Piano Man by Billy Joel. You knew when these songs came on the jukebox, your night was coming to an end, but they always used to complete any great night out.
These songs also meant it was time to find a pledge to drive you through Guthries.
Oh, these songs. They all take me back to the days I probably shouldn't even be capable of remembering.
Thank the sweet beer lawd that I do, though.
And thank that same lawd I still have alllll of these pictures around. Or maybe I shouldn't be so thankful. Scratch that, I am thankful... now I have more blogging material. What has my life become?
To complete this trip down memory lane I'm backing my azz up to a college classic and also leaving you with this 7 year old photo that explains so much.
This one takes me back to 2006 formal.
But that's a different story for a different post. Just enjoy this throwback and let's get to jamming out!

I Wore Yoga Pants - The Drinking Game

Thursday, 2 May 2013
And just like that, it's Thursday. Who knew?
Not me, I thought it was Wednesday, if we're being honest here.
I'm shamefully eating a chocolate chip cookie for lunch right now and I don't really think that fits into my whole trying to be healthy and fit thing I've been trying to do, but I can explain. Kind of.
You see, I've been on a break from working out this week because apparently when you do heavy amounts of power walking at an intense incline, you are supposed to wear footwear that supports your feet. I missed this memo and now I'm painfully paying for it. Simply put, my ankles and arches are straight up PISSED at your girl.
Wearing cute tennis shoes to the gym is a real dumb thing to do.
Lesson learned. Maybe.
I interrupt this post for a very special guest...
This was not supposed to happen today but Sarah from Venus Trapped in Mars just sent me her post for this week's Saturday takeover and I feel the strong need to post a portion of it right NOW. TODAY.
MY VERY OWN DRINKING GAME.

Shape of the Eye (Updated) Giveaway

Wednesday, 1 May 2013
Congrats to the winners: Brianna and Astra!
The Shape of the Eye, by George Estreich, is one of those unique, must-read, memoirs that takes the reader on a journey of the past, and makes the reader think about how we got to the present, in terms of society's perceptions on people with Down syndrome.
I did a review and giveaway of this book back in Oct 2011, and another giveaway in Oct 2012. This book has just recently been re-released in paperback and I am hosting a giveaway for 2 winners.
The paperback has an afterword that updates readers on Laura (George's daughter), and the rest of the family, since the hardcover was released. George also discusses some societal quandaries that have come up with the advances in technology, science, and research.
Parents.com recently did a Q&A with George (although I did cringe at the lead-in describing "...his Down syndrome daughter..." instead of the use of people-first language); and The Shape of the Eye gets a 4-star review and "Pick of the Week" in the April 29th edition of People Magazine.
If you would like to win a copy of this Oregon Book Award Winner, please leave a comment (making sure I have a way to contact you). Contest open to those in the US and Canada.

Misconceptions of Lifestyle Bloggers
If you are an outsider you may not know, but this blogging thing is all divided up like the lunch tables at the cafeteria in high school. We have the fashion bloggers, the mom bloggers, the foodie bloggers, the DIY bloggers, the healthy bloggers, the wedding bloggers, and then there's those of us who seem to only talk about ourselves every day and we call ourselves the lifestyle bloggers.
Here's the deal, I kind of hate being grouped into that category. There's a lot of negative connotations that go with the whole lifestyle blogging thing and today I'm here to clear some things up.
Let me clear my throat.
1. Erin Condren planners are our bible.
False. So false. While I'm sure there's a solid handful of lifestyle bloggers who can't get dressed in the morning without theirglorified paper weights EC planners, I'm here to tell you that the majority of us can't stand them. They're really just unnecessarily large and in charge.
Personally, the two I've wasted my hard earned doll hairs on are nothing more than dust collecting, space taker-uppers on my shelf. The worst part? That one on the far right... never been written in once. 60 cold, hard dollars of waste right there, my friends.
2. We drink Starbucks errry day, alll day.
Neg.A.Tive. Again, while there are those lifestyle bloggers who insist on shoving their Instagrammed Starbucks cup photos down your throat every single day, let me just say that the majority of us don't get down like that.
In my case, I can't afford a damn $5 cup of coffee every day. I can't speak for everyone but I'm going to assume this probably goes for plenty others.
I'm either snagging the free coffee in front office of my apartment complex or I'm all over my Keurig.
If I have K-cups...
5. We're always photo ready.
This one makes me giggle, mostly because I'm pretty sure this is the one that everyone already knows doesn't relate to me. Hence the blog name... and the fact that I'm currently sitting at my desk with 3 day hair in a messy bun and a little bit of yesterday's makeup that chose to stick around overnight.
I guess I can agree that no one really enjoys posting a bad photo, so I get this misconception. However, I can whole heartedly say that this next photo is actually more flattering than anything I could pass off right now. Even if I put sunglasses on...
6. We are obsessed with chevron.
Actually, I think this one might not be much of a misconception... but, believe it or not, we all don't have a chevron wall in our house and a closet full of chevron dresses. I know this one comes as a shock to those of you who have negative feelings towards us lifestyle peoplez but it's true.
Not that there's anything wrong with chevron because if it didn't make me look 10 pounds heavier, I might give it a try, but alas those zigzag stripes make my ass look too big to fit through the door. I'll stick with my solid neutrals and yoga pants for now.
7. We're all here to be "blog famous".
I like this one the best. Mostly because I don't know who, in their right mind, thinks they're actually going to be "blog famous" as a lifestyle blogger. I mean, really, all we do is talk about ourselves. Whodafuk is going to get famous like that, for cereal?
And before someone jumps on me and says it... I know I joke about being a reality star a lot but I also insist that none of you take me seriously on the regular, so just remember that... and keep this creeper face I make when a camera points to me in mind.
8, 9, and 10... We're not all "twenty-somethings just here on this journey called life", most of us do have 9-5 day jobs, and a good majority of us started doing this because we were bored one day.And maybe a little bit drunk.
What I'm trying to say here is that us lifestyle people aren't just a bunch of sock bun wearing perfectionists or a bunch of crazy circus characters out to put on the performance of a lifetime.
Try a lifestyle blogger on for size, we're not all clowns.
Or maybe we are.

Misconceptions of Lifestyle Bloggers
*Disclaimer: This is not meant to be taken seriously or to offend anyone who enjoys Erin Condren Planners and/or chevron and suck buns.*

For the record: If you can afford it, more power to ya. I'd be all over that iced green tea if I could.
3. We think everyone who doesn't agree with us is jealous of us.
Nope, just the annoying ones who give us a bad name and make us look like clowns via Twitterama. Again, there's a solid amount of us that just realize that you can't please everyone and there are people who plain just don't like you, and I like to think that most of us are totally cool with that.
Don't hate the player, hate the game.
Or blog?
4. We think we have the perfect life.
This is probably the one that makes me want to vomit the most, really. I read a shit ton of blogs on the daily that are guilty of this, so I understand why this is a misconception of lifestyle bloggers but, dammit, there's eleventy billion of us who know, damn right well, that our shit isn't perfect.
I think this one is a misconception because a lot of people simply don't choose to share anything but positivity, and that's totally cool because it's your blog and you write what you want, but mostly it's just hard to relate to. At least for me it is.
Clearly I don't have that filter. It happens.
